Copper Wiring Theft Strikes Parra Home, Police Pursue Jharkhand Leads
Thieves broke into a locked house in Parra, Mapusa, and stripped it of its entire electrical wiring. The property's caretaker discovered the theft on January 10. He found heavy appliances left untouched while copper wiring was extracted from the walls.
Similar Burglary Reported in Verla-Canca
This unusual modus operandi mirrors a similar burglary reported at the neighbouring Verla-Canca about three months ago. Homeowner Balerio Lemos returned from Mumbai to find his house completely dark. All internal wiring had been removed, even as appliances like the refrigerator and washing machine were not touched.
Residents Express Fear and Demand Action
The incidence of this crime has left residents, particularly senior citizens, living in fear. "Thieves are now targeting houses they perceive as soft targets," said former sarpanch Chandanand Harmalkar. He, along with Calangute MLA Michael Lobo, demanded intensified night patrols.
Lobo expressed concern over the growing lawlessness. He pointed to inadequate police infrastructure at the Mapusa police station.
Police Investigation and Leads
Meanwhile, Mapusa police said they are pursuing multiple leads. While initial inputs suggested that the suspects used a two-wheeler, CCTV footage revealed a four-wheeler to be linked to the gang. A police team has been dispatched to Jharkhand following a tip-off.
The police are actively working on the case. They are examining all evidence to track down the culprits. Residents hope for swift action to restore a sense of security in the area.
