Odisha Police's First Republic Day Tableau to Spotlight Coastal Security
Odisha Police's First Republic Day Tableau Focuses on Coastal Security

The Odisha police have made a significant announcement. They will present their very first Republic Day tableau during the grand parade in Bhubaneswar on January 26. This special display will grace Mahatma Gandhi Marg, capturing the attention of thousands of spectators.

Focus on Coastal Vigilance

Police sources confirm the tableau's theme. It will focus squarely on coastal security. This choice highlights the state police force's constant vigilance and preparedness along Odisha's extensive 575-kilometer shoreline.

"The tableau's design is in its final stage," stated Director General of Police Y B Khurania. He emphasized the historic nature of this participation. "This is the first time a tableau of Odisha police will take part in the grand Republic Day parade."

A Patrol Boat Takes Center Stage

Officials provided details about the tableau's appearance. It will be shaped like a patrol boat. This design mirrors the actual vessels used by the marine police for daily coastal surveillance operations.

The display will depict dynamic scenes. It will show marine police officers in action, intercepting suspected infiltrators. This imagery powerfully symbolizes the force's unwavering commitment to safeguarding the state's maritime borders.

Arun Bothra, the Additional Director General for coastal security, recently presented the finalized design to the DGP for official approval.

Recognition of Service and Priority

A senior police officer explained the importance of this inclusion. "Republic Day parades across India are celebrated for their vibrant tableaux," the officer said. "They showcase cultural, social and institutional achievements. Odisha police's inclusion in the 2026 parade is a clear recognition of its dedicated service and contribution to law and order."

The selection of coastal security as the central theme is not accidental. It directly reflects the state government's high priority. The government is actively working to fortify the entire coastline against potential threats. These threats include the possibility of terror strikes using sea routes.

Financial Backing for Security Infrastructure

In a strong move to support this priority, the state government has recently sanctioned substantial funds. A sum of Rs 150 crore has been allocated to bolster coastal security infrastructure.

This significant investment will support several key initiatives. The funds will help establish an advanced command and control centre. They will also finance the installation of CCTV cameras at critical fish landing centres. Furthermore, the money will go towards strengthening existing marine police stations along the coast.

The Bhubaneswar Parade: A Major Annual Event

The Republic Day parade in Bhubaneswar is a major annual attraction. It consistently draws thousands of enthusiastic spectators from across the region.

Looking back at the 2025 parade provides context. That event featured an impressive lineup. It included 12 themed tableaux and numerous cultural performances from various government departments. The themes highlighted important areas like rural development, women's empowerment, education, and technological progress.

A total of 49 contingents participated in the 2025 event. These included the Odisha police, the Border Security Force, the Odisha Special Armed Police, and the Central Reserve Police Force. The upcoming parade promises to be equally grand, with the Odisha police's debut tableau adding a new layer of significance to the celebrations.
