Thane Court Convicts Nursing Assistant for Molesting ICU Patient
A special Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) court in Thane has convicted a 33-year-old male nursing assistant for outraging the modesty of a female patient inside the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a private hospital in Mumbra. Special judge Ruby U Malvankar delivered the verdict on Thursday, sentencing the convict to two years of rigorous imprisonment and imposing a fine of Rs 5,000. The judge noted that the act committed within the ICU carried "even more criminality" due to the severe breach of trust involved, as patients in such units are in critical condition and rely entirely on medical staff.

The convict was found guilty under Section 354 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for using criminal force with intent to outrage a woman's modesty. Special Public Prosecutor Adv. YM Patil examined seven prosecution witnesses, including the victim and her mother, to build the case and secure the conviction.
