In a significant counter-insurgency success, security forces have apprehended an active militant leader in a sensitive border region of the Northeast. A joint team comprising the Khonsa Battalion of the Assam Rifles and the Arunachal Pradesh Police captured a self-styled captain of the NSCN (K–Niki Sumi) faction in a meticulously planned operation on Wednesday.
Operation Hukanjuri-II: A Swift Strike Based on Intel
The operation, codenamed 'Ops Hukanjuri-II,' was launched based on specific intelligence inputs. Multiple security channels, including the Eastern Command Intelligence Battalion (ECIB) and 3 CIB, had confirmed the presence of an armed insurgent in the area. Acting swiftly on this information, the joint security team zeroed in on the Hukanjuri area in Tirap district of Arunachal Pradesh.
The well-coordinated raid led to the immediate capture of the insurgent. The apprehended individual has been identified as self-styled captain Jenlong Waktham, aged 31. His capture marks a notable achievement for the security apparatus in the region.
Arms, Ammunition, and Evidence Recovered
During the operation, the security personnel conducted a thorough search and recovered several crucial items from Waktham's possession. The seized cache included:
- A pistol
- One magazine
- Six live rounds of ammunition
In addition to the weaponry, the forces also recovered one mobile phone and one PAN card. These items are expected to provide vital leads for further investigation into the network and activities of the faction.
Handover for Legal Proceedings and a Message of Resolve
Following the successful operation, the captured self-styled captain, along with all the recovered arms and ammunition, was formally handed over to the Khonsa police station. The police will now lead the further investigation and subsequent legal proceedings against the accused.
In an official statement, the Assam Rifles highlighted the significance of this action. The statement emphasized that the swift and decisive operation underscores the continued resolve of both the Assam Rifles and the Arunachal Pradesh Police. Their joint efforts are firmly directed towards maintaining peace, strengthening security, and decisively curbing insurgent activities in this sensitive border region.
