Notorious Burglar with 17 Prior Cases Apprehended by Alert Residents in Pune Society
In a dramatic turn of events, residents of a housing society in Indrayaninagar, Bhosari, Pune, successfully apprehended a burglar on Sunday morning. The accused, identified as Sagar Singh Andherele, aged 27 and hailing from Jalna, was caught red-handed after breaking into a flat. Shockingly, police records reveal that Andherele is a seasoned criminal with a staggering 17 burglary cases already registered against him in Jalna and Nagpur.
Details of the Break-in and Apprehension
The incident unfolded early on Sunday when Andherele and an accomplice forcibly entered a flat within the society. They managed to steal Rs55,500 in cash and two valuable silver coins from the premises. As the duo attempted to flee on a motorcycle, alert residents noticed their suspicious behavior and moved to intercept them.
In a desperate bid to escape, the burglars threatened the residents with knives and a country-made pistol. Despite the intimidation, the courageous residents managed to overpower and detain Andherele. His accomplice, however, seized the opportunity to escape and remains at large.
Police Investigation and Recoveries
Upon arrival, the Bhosari police took custody of Andherele and launched a thorough investigation. They recovered the stolen cash and silver coins from his possession. Additionally, during the scuffle, a cartridge slipped out from the magazine of the accomplice's country-made pistol, which was also secured as evidence.
Further scrutiny by the police uncovered that the motorcycle used by the burglars had been reported stolen in Pune. A vehicle theft case related to this motorcycle is already registered with the Vishrantwadi police station.
An officer involved in the case stated, "We have recovered the stolen booty from Singh's possession. We also seized equipment used by the duo to break the locks of flats. Singh has been produced before the court and remanded to Yerawada central prison. A intensive search operation is currently underway to locate his accomplice, who is still on the run."
