A Delhi court has extended the National Investigation Agency (NIA) custody of deported gangster Anmol Bishnoi by seven additional days in a significant development involving multiple high-profile criminal cases.
Court Order and Security Arrangements
Special Judge Prashant Sharma issued the extension order on Saturday during a hearing conducted at the NIA headquarters under tight security protocols. The extended custody will remain in effect until December 5, allowing investigators more time to question the accused.
The hearing took place amid heightened security concerns after Bishnoi's legal counsel raised serious threats to his client's safety. The court proceedings were moved to the NIA headquarters rather than the regular court premises due to security considerations.
Safety Concerns and Legal Requests
Advocate Rajani, representing Anmol Bishnoi, filed a formal application requesting additional security measures to protect her client's life and liberty. The application cited specific threats from a Pakistani gangster circulating on social media platforms.
In her submission, Advocate Rajani requested the court to direct the NIA to provide adequate armed police protection and ensure that Bishnoi is transported exclusively in bulletproof vehicles while wearing protective gear. She emphasized that similar social media threats have previously escalated into actual violent incidents.
The legal application referenced a March 2025 incident in Jalandhar, Punjab, where a grenade was hurled at a social media influencer's residence following online threats. This case was presented as evidence of the pattern where digital threats transform into real-world violence.
Criminal Background and Investigations
Anmol Bishnoi faces multiple serious charges across several states. He is wanted in connection with the murder of NCP leader Baba Siddique, the April 2024 attack at actor Salman Khan's residence, and the killing of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala among other criminal activities.
The gangster was deported from the United States on November 18 after being detained there last year. According to NIA records, Bishnoi had been absconding since 2022 and represents the 19th accused arrested in connection with the terror-syndicate led by his jailed brother, Lawrence Bishnoi.
Investigations have revealed that Anmol Bishnoi operated closely with designated individual terrorist Goldy Brar and his brother Lawrence Bishnoi in commissioning various acts of terrorism across India between 2020 and 2023. Despite being based in the US, he allegedly continued to run terror syndicates and execute terrorist acts for the Lawrence Bishnoi gang using ground operatives in India.
The NIA had previously chargesheeted Anmol Bishnoi in March 2023 after investigations established his active involvement in providing shelter and logistic support to the gang's shooters and ground operatives. He was also engaged in extortion activities in India while operating from foreign soil with assistance from other gangsters.
Bishnoi's name emerged prominently during investigations into three major cases: the Sidhu Moosewala murder case, the MLA Siddiqui murder case in Mumbai, and the firing incident at Bollywood actor Salman Khan's residence in Mumbai.
