A 24-year-old newlywed woman was found dead under suspicious circumstances in her in-laws' house in Delhi's Bhajanpura area on Tuesday. The victim, identified as Priya, had been married for only six months. Her husband, Ravi, is missing since the incident.
Incident Details
According to police, Priya was found lying on her bed with no visible injuries. However, her family alleged that she was being harassed for dowry. The couple had married in November 2025, and Priya's parents had given a car and cash as dowry, but the demands continued.
Police Investigation
Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Dowry Prohibition Act. The body has been sent for postmortem. A search is underway for the husband. Neighbors reported hearing arguments from the house late Monday night.
Priya's father said, "She called us a week ago, complaining of harassment. We tried to talk to Ravi's family, but they were uncooperative. Now she is no more."
Dowry Harassment Concerns
This incident highlights the persistent issue of dowry-related violence in India. Despite laws, many women suffer in silence. Activists call for stricter enforcement and societal change. Police urge anyone with information to come forward.
