In a tragic development in Thane, Harish alias Bhau Daroda, the nephew of Shahapur's Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MLA Daulat Daroda, has died in hospital due to brain-related medical complications. The incident occurred while he was in judicial custody for his alleged involvement in a significant rice procurement scam valued at approximately Rs 1.5 crore in Shahapur taluka.

According to the Khadakpada police, Harish Daroda was arrested in December 2025 and subsequently lodged in Adharwadi Jail in Kalyan after being remanded in judicial custody. On January 18, he experienced severe brain-related medical complications, prompting his admission to Thane Civil Hospital for urgent treatment. Despite medical efforts, he passed away during treatment on Thursday.
As the death took place while he was under judicial custody, the police have officially registered an accidental death report to document the circumstances. To determine the precise cause of death, his body has been sent to JJ Hospital for a comprehensive post-mortem examination, which is standard procedure in such cases to ensure transparency and accuracy.
