Navi Mumbai Hit-and-Run Tragedy Leaves Youth Dead, Pillion Rider Fighting for Life

A horrific hit-and-run incident on Palm Beach road in Navi Mumbai has resulted in the death of a 24-year-old man and left a 19-year-old girl with severe, life-threatening injuries. The gruesome accident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday near Sanpada, sending shockwaves through the local community.

Brutal Impact: Victim Decapitated as Bike Skids 50 Meters

The force of the collision was so extreme that the young man, identified as Prashant Jamdade, was decapitated. Police reports indicate that after being struck from behind by an unidentified vehicle, his motorcycle skidded violently for approximately 50 meters before coming to a halt. The pillion rider, Harman Kaur, was thrown from the bike and sustained critical injuries to her head and both legs.

Details of the Fatal Night

According to Police Sub-Inspector Suraj Raut, the two friends were returning home around 3 am after celebrating Holika Dahan, a traditional pre-Holi festival. As they approached the Sanpada area on Palm Beach road, an unknown vehicle rammed into their motorcycle from behind and immediately fled the scene, leaving the victims in a devastating state.

Harman Kaur was rushed to a nearby hospital and is currently admitted in the Intensive Care Unit, where she is receiving emergency treatment for her grave injuries. Prashant Jamdade, who worked for a private firm, was pronounced dead at the scene due to the catastrophic nature of the impact.

Police Investigation Faces Hurdles

In their pursuit of the fleeing driver, authorities reviewed all available CCTV footage along the stretch of road where the tragedy unfolded. However, PSI Raut revealed a significant setback: "We checked all the CCTV camera footages along the stretch of road where the mishap occurred to get some lead of the unidentified vehicle that hit the bike. Unfortunately, there is no CCTV camera installed near the accident spot."

This lack of surveillance near the exact location has complicated efforts to identify the responsible vehicle and its driver. Despite this challenge, an FIR has been officially registered at the Koparkhairane police station against the unidentified driver. The case has been filed under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Motor Vehicles Act.

Community and Legal Response

The incident has highlighted urgent concerns about road safety and surveillance infrastructure on Palm Beach road, a major thoroughfare in Navi Mumbai. Local residents and authorities are calling for enhanced measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.

As the investigation continues, police are appealing to the public for any information that might lead to the identification of the vehicle involved. The search for the hit-and-run driver remains a top priority for the Koparkhairane police station.
