The Anti-Narcotics Cell in Navi Mumbai has made significant progress in its fight against drug trafficking. Over the past six months, officers have arrested twenty-five drug peddlers who were operating illegal rackets in the city. These individuals, all hailing from Punjab, were living in rented accommodations across Navi Mumbai.
Major Drug Seizures and Ongoing Investigations
Authorities have seized a substantial quantity of narcotics from the arrested peddlers. The confiscated items include 680 grams of heroin and 182 grams of opium. Police also recovered seventeen bottles of banned codeine syrup during the operations. In addition to the drugs, officers found Rs 4.8 lakh in cash and thirty mobile phones in the possession of the accused.
Police Action and Legal Proceedings
Senior Inspector Sandeep Nigade of the Anti-Narcotics Cell provided details about the case. He confirmed that five separate First Information Reports have been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. These FIRs were filed at Taloja, Kalamboli, CBD, NRI coastal, and APMC police stations in Navi Mumbai.
The total value of the seized heroin and opium is estimated at approximately Rs 3.3 crore. This figure highlights the scale of the drug operations that were disrupted by the police action.
Search for Remaining Suspects
Despite these arrests, the investigation is not complete. Police officials report that ten additional individuals connected to the drug racket are still being traced. The Anti-Narcotics Cell continues its efforts to locate these suspects and bring them to justice.
This crackdown represents a major victory for law enforcement in Navi Mumbai. The arrests and seizures demonstrate the ongoing commitment of police to combat drug trafficking in the region. Residents hope these actions will help reduce the availability of illegal substances in their communities.
