Nashik Engineering Student Arrested for Sexual Exploitation Using Photo Blackmail
The Panchavati police in Nashik have made a significant arrest, taking into custody a 21-year-old engineering student accused of sexually exploiting a fellow student through a disturbing pattern of blackmail and intimidation. The case centers on the accused allegedly threatening to circulate the survivor's private photographs on social media platforms if she did not comply with his demands for a physical relationship.
Details of the Alleged Exploitation
According to Inspector Gajendra Patil of the Panchavati police station, the exploitation reportedly occurred over an extended period from June 2024 to January 2026. During this time, the accused is alleged to have assaulted the complainant at five distinct locations, including a lodge, their college premises, a garden, and various private establishments. The inspector detailed that the accused initially befriended the woman before escalating to blackmail using photographs captured in compromising positions.
The survivor's complaint reveals a harrowing sequence of events. She stated that the accused repeatedly threatened to upload her private photos online unless she submitted to his demands for a physical relationship. The harassment intensified over recent months, with the survivor alleging she was forced to smoke cigarettes and, in January of this year, was made to consume alcohol. When left incapacitated from the alcohol, she reported that the accused raped her.
Police Action and Legal Charges
The persistent harassment ultimately prompted the woman to approach the Panchavati police. An FIR was registered late on Friday night, leading to the immediate arrest of the accused. A Nashik court has since remanded him in police custody until April 22 for further investigation.
The case has been registered under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Information Technology Act. Specifically, charges include:
- BNS Section 64: Rape
- BNS Section 115(2): Causing hurt
- BNS Section 51(2): Criminal intimidation
- Information Technology Act Section 66E: Non-consensual capturing or sharing of private images
This combination of charges reflects the serious nature of the allegations, encompassing both physical assault and digital exploitation. The use of Section 66E highlights the growing legal recognition of crimes involving the misuse of private images for blackmail and coercion.
Broader Implications and Community Impact
This incident underscores alarming trends in the misuse of technology for sexual exploitation, particularly within educational environments. The case serves as a stark reminder of the vulnerabilities students may face and the critical importance of robust support systems and legal frameworks to address such crimes.
Authorities are continuing their investigation to gather further evidence and ensure justice is served. The Panchavati police have urged anyone with additional information or similar experiences to come forward, emphasizing their commitment to tackling crimes of this nature with utmost seriousness.
