Nashik Rural Police Jurisdiction Sees 7% Crime Spike in 2025

The Nashik Rural Police has reported a concerning rise in criminal activities within its jurisdiction for the year 2025. According to official data, the total number of registered cases climbed to 8,615, marking a 7% increase compared to the 8,024 cases documented in 2024. This uptick is attributed to a surge in serious offenses including riots, physical attacks, abductions, and sexual harassment incidents.

Detailed Breakdown of Crime Statistics

A closer examination of the crime data reveals mixed trends across different categories. On a positive note, the overall detection rate of the Nashik Rural Police improved significantly, reaching 80% in 2025 compared to 76% in the previous year. Furthermore, certain violent crimes saw a decline. Murder cases dropped from 87 in 2024 to 63 in 2025. Robberies decreased by 34 cases to 94, and thefts reduced from 1,521 to 1,462.

However, these reductions were overshadowed by substantial increases in other areas of crime:

  • Attempted Murders: Rose to 93 cases in 2025.
  • Cases of Hurt (Physical Violence): Increased by 150 cases, reaching 1,448 compared to 1,298 in 2024.
  • Riot Cases: Jumped by 55 to 462, up from 407.
  • Abduction Cases: Surged by 78 to 620.
  • Sexual Harassment Cases: Increased by 73 to 418, from 345 the previous year.

Police Response and Election Context

Senior officials, including Superintendent of Police Balasaheb Patil, have provided insights into the factors behind the rising crime numbers. They attribute the increase partly to stricter procedural adherence by in-charge officers, ensuring that no complaints were refused registration. This proactive approach aimed to eliminate the practice of burking or suppressing cases.

SP Patil highlighted the implementation of a visitor feedback system across police stations and the control room. This initiative involves follow-up calls to visitors to assess whether their issues were resolved satisfactorily, thereby enhancing accountability and transparency in complaint handling.

The backdrop of the municipal council elections in 2025 also played a significant role. SP Patil noted that many incidents of physical assaults and riots occurred "in the heat of the moment" during the election period. The police ensured that cases were promptly registered against involved individuals, maintaining that "once a person's name comes on police record, he is constantly on the radar of the police."

Despite the rise in reported crimes, the improved detection rate of 80% demonstrates the force's commitment to effective law enforcement and timely resolution of cases in the Nashik rural region.
