Nashik Police to Strengthen Traffic Management with Additional Manpower
Senior officers of the Nashik city police are actively considering the provision of extra manpower to the city traffic branch. This strategic move is driven by the pressing need for enhanced traffic police presence, especially in light of the numerous road construction projects currently underway across the city.
Traffic Wardens and Additional Force Deployment
In response to the ongoing infrastructure developments, the police have already made a decisive step by appointing 100 traffic wardens. This initiative is part of a broader preparation strategy for the upcoming Kumbh Mela, a major religious gathering that will significantly increase vehicular and pedestrian movement in Nashik.
According to police officials, there are plans to further bolster the city traffic branch with additional personnel. This reinforcement is deemed essential to manage the various traffic diversions that have been implemented due to current road works. Moreover, it will help handle new construction projects scheduled to commence in the coming weeks and months.
Extensive Road and Bridge Works in Progress
The Nashik Municipal Corporation has outlined an ambitious plan to undertake construction on 21 roads and five bridges in different parts of the city. These projects are being prioritized ahead of the Kumbh Mela to ensure smoother traffic flow and improved infrastructure.
In addition to these municipal efforts, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) is also executing significant works. This includes the construction of the Indiranagar and Ranenagar underpasses on the Mumbai-Agra highway, which passes through Nashik. These underpasses are expected to alleviate congestion and enhance connectivity.
Currently, works on five roads and one bridge are already in progress. Motorists are navigating these areas by using diversion routes suggested by the police or opting for other alternative roads. The commencement of works on the remaining roads is anticipated soon, further emphasizing the need for robust traffic management.
Selection and Timeline for Additional Force
Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime) Sandeep Mitke provided insights into the process of augmenting the traffic branch. He mentioned that the police are in the midst of selecting constables from various police stations and branches who can be transferred to the city traffic branch.
The additional force is expected to be deployed by the end of this month or in the first week of February, ensuring that the traffic branch is adequately staffed to handle the increased workload from the road works and the impending Kumbh Mela.
This proactive approach by the Nashik police aims to minimize disruptions and maintain order on the city's roads during this critical period of infrastructure development and large-scale events.
