Nashik Police Bust Drug Racket, Nab Family with Contraband Worth Lakhs

In a significant crackdown, the Nashik police arrested three members of a single family on Thursday for allegedly possessing narcotics with a total street value exceeding Rs 23.35 lakh. The operation, launched on a specific tip-off, led to the seizure of both marijuana and a substantial quantity of amphetamine from their residence in the Cathey Colony area of Deolali Camp.

Coordinated Raid Based on Intelligence

The action was set in motion under the guidance of Nashik Commissioner of Police Sandeep Karnik. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 2) Kishor Kale formed a special team comprising senior inspectors from the Upnagar, Nashik Road, and Deolali Camp police stations. This coordinated team conducted a raid on the suspects' home, leading to the discovery of the illicit substances.

The police recovered 249 grams of ganja (marijuana) valued at approximately Rs 5,000 and a much larger consignment of 487 grams of amphetamine, a potent psychotropic substance. The estimated value of the seized amphetamine is a staggering Rs 23.3 lakh.

Interrogation and Investigation Underway

All three arrested individuals are reported to be labourers. Senior police officers stated that the suspects are currently being interrogated to uncover the source of the drugs and their supply chain. "We are interrogating the suspects, all workers, to ascertain from where the concerned family had brought the drug," an officer confirmed.

The context of the area provided a lead for the investigation. With ongoing construction works undertaken by the army in Deolali Camp, contractors have brought in workers from various regions. The police are looking into all possible angles and connections.

Legal Action and Community Impact

The Deolali Camp police have registered a formal case against the accused under the relevant stringent sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. This arrest highlights the continued vigilance of the Nashik police against the narcotics trade, aiming to curb its spread within communities.

Such seizures, especially of high-value synthetic drugs like amphetamine, are crucial in disrupting local drug networks. The police action sends a strong message against drug peddling in residential areas. The investigation remains active as authorities work to trace the origins of the confiscated drugs and identify any further links in the network.
