Nashik: Ghoti Police Crack Down on Brahmagiri Mountain Dacoity, Arrest Six Suspects

In a significant breakthrough, the Ghoti police in Nashik district have arrested six individuals in connection with a violent dacoity case that targeted Varkari pilgrims near the Brahmagiri mountain. The arrests come after a meticulous investigation into the incident that occurred in the early hours of January 16, during the auspicious occasion of Nivrutti Maharaj Jayanti in Trimbakeshwar.

Details of the Dacoity Incident

According to police officials, the crime unfolded around 4 am near Ghadoshi village, a remote area along the 20-kilometer detour route around Brahmagiri mountain. A group of women pilgrims, who were part of the Varkari tradition, were ambushed by six dacoits armed with sticks and sharp weapons. The attackers assaulted the pilgrims and forcibly seized their cash, jewellery, and mobile phones, with the total loot estimated at Rs 1.19 lakh.

Police Investigation and Arrests

Inspector Vijay Shinde of the Ghoti police station revealed that although the victims initially did not file a formal complaint and returned to their village in Rahuri, Ahilyanagar district, the police received intelligence about the dacoity. Sub-inspector Pravin Ude took the initiative to trace the victims and facilitated the registration of their complaint.

Based on this, the police filed an FIR under sections 310(2) for dacoity and 351(2) for criminal intimidation of the BNS late on Tuesday night. Deputy superintendent of police Harish Khedkar noted that the remote nature of the crime scene indicated the perpetrators were locals. Swift police action led to the arrest of all six suspects from Ghadoshi and nearby villages.

Recovery and Confession

The arrested individuals have confessed to their involvement in the crime and cooperated in returning the stolen jewellery and mobile phones to the victims. This recovery marks a crucial step in providing justice to the affected pilgrims and restoring their belongings.

Enhanced Security Measures

In response to this incident, Deputy superintendent Khedkar announced plans to intensify patrolling during major religious events when pilgrims undertake the Brahmagiri mountain detour. This proactive measure aims to prevent similar crimes and ensure the safety of devotees in the future.

The suspects were produced before a court on Wednesday and have been remanded in police custody until January 28, as the investigation continues to uncover further details and ensure legal proceedings are followed meticulously.
