A shocking incident has unfolded in the rural outskirts of Nagpur, where a young woman preparing for a police recruitment examination was brutally murdered in a hotel room. The victim, identified as 21-year-old Ruchita Bhange, was discovered with fatal injuries at a hotel in Fetri, located approximately 17 kilometers from Nagpur on Kalmeshwar Road.
Discovery of the Crime Scene
Hotel staff grew suspicious after failing to receive any response from the room where Ruchita and her boyfriend had checked in. Their concerns escalated due to an unusual silence persisting since Thursday evening. On Friday morning, around 9:30 AM, the staff forced entry into the room and were horrified to find Ruchita lying on the bed in a pool of blood, with her throat slit and a knife nearby. They immediately alerted the Kalmeshwar police, who rushed to the scene to begin investigations.
Details of the Victim and Suspect
Ruchita Bhange was a resident of Borgaon near Gittikhadan and was in her final year of a BA degree. She was actively preparing for police recruitment tests, often practicing at local grounds despite objections from her boyfriend. The prime suspect is her boyfriend, Saurav Jamgade, a 25-year-old data entry operator from Aashti Khurd. According to police sources, the couple had been in a relationship for about two years and had arrived at the hotel on separate two-wheelers, which were later found parked outside.
Possible Motive and Sequence of Events
Initial investigations by the Kalmeshwar police suggest that the murder may have been driven by extreme possessiveness and jealousy following a failed relationship. Saurav allegedly lured Ruchita to the hotel room under the pretext of returning her mobile phone, which he had snatched a couple of days earlier, and to discuss an amicable breakup. However, the situation quickly escalated into a heated argument and physical altercation.
Police suspect that the attack occurred between 3 PM and 4 PM on Thursday and was premeditated, as Saurav was armed at the time. After the incident, he reportedly fled the hotel by jumping from the balcony and escaping on foot, leaving his vehicle behind. CCTV footage captured him heading towards the railway station, where he boarded a train, making his whereabouts currently unknown.
