In a significant crackdown highlighting its zero-tolerance stance, the Nagpur City Police has achieved a notable conviction under its ongoing 'Operation U Turn' initiative. A repeat offender of drunk driving has been sentenced to jail, marking a stern message from the authorities against traffic rule violations.
Court Hands Down Jail Term for Dangerous Driving
The Judicial Magistrate First Class (Motor Vehicle Court) delivered a decisive verdict in this case. The accused was sentenced to 14 days of simple imprisonment for offences under Sections 184 (dangerous driving) and 185 (drunk driving) of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. An additional 10-day sentence was imposed for driving without a valid licence under Section 3/181. The court ordered that both sentences run concurrently.
A Habitual Offender Faces the Law
This is not the first time the offender has faced legal action for such misconduct. Records show a previous conviction in 2017 for similar violations. During the recent enforcement drive, the individual was caught driving without a licence. A subsequent medical examination revealed an alarming blood alcohol concentration of 113mg per 100ml, which is far above the legally permissible limit in India.
The court firmly rejected any plea for leniency, emphasizing the grave risk such repeat offenders pose to public safety. The magistrate underscored that habitual disregard for traffic laws cannot be tolerated, given the potential for fatal accidents.
Police Hail Verdict as a Strong Deterrent
The Nagpur Police Department has welcomed the court's ruling, describing it as a powerful deterrent against habitual traffic violators. Officials stated that this conviction under 'Operation U Turn' reinforces their commitment to making the city's roads safer for all citizens.
Police authorities are urging the public to strictly adhere to traffic rules, including never driving under the influence of alcohol and always possessing a valid driving licence. They hope this case serves as a stark warning that repeated and dangerous violations will lead to severe legal consequences, including imprisonment.
