Nagpur Police Arrest Headmaster and Two Teachers in Shalarth ID Scam
Police in Nagpur made significant arrests on Monday in connection with a widespread education scam. They took into custody a headmaster and two teachers from Gondia district. The arrests relate directly to the Shalarth ID and fake teacher recruitment scandal that has rocked Maharashtra.
Accused Identified and Their Roles
The arrested individuals have been named as Bhaurao Malche, aged 56, who served as the headmaster. Dinesh Kumar Katre, 44, and Rupali Rahangdale, 40, were the two teachers detained alongside him. All three worked at Siddharth High School and Arts & Science Junior College located in Thanegaon, Tiroda taluka.
This educational institution operates under the management of the Milind Backward Class Education Institution. Police sources reveal that the trio allegedly obtained their teaching positions through dishonest means.
Forged Documents and Fraudulent IDs
According to investigators, the accused submitted forged educational certificates and other crucial documents. These fake papers were then used to generate fraudulent Shalarth IDs. The Shalarth ID system serves as the online employee identification platform for Maharashtra's education department.
This system is specifically designed for salary disbursement and teacher verification purposes. By creating these fake IDs, the accused bypassed proper verification procedures.
Police Action and Investigation Details
A dedicated police team carried out the arrests under strong leadership. Senior police inspector Amol Deshmukh led the operation. He received support from sub-inspector Santosh Shiradole and head constables Pralesh Kapse and Sunil Raut.
The court has remanded all three accused to police custody for two days. This allows investigators more time to question them thoroughly about their involvement in the scam.
Ongoing Probe and Broader Implications
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by deputy commissioner of police Nityanand Jha is currently investigating the case. Meanwhile, local police continue to examine the fake teacher appointments aspect separately.
The investigation began in April 2024 when authorities registered two separate First Information Reports (FIRs). This marked the start of a multi-district probe that has expanded across Maharashtra.
So far, police have arrested more than seventeen individuals in connection with this scam. Those arrested include education department officials, headmasters, and teachers from various locations.
Police officials confirm that several other teachers and headmasters remain under active surveillance. The investigation continues to uncover more details about this organized education fraud.
