Nagpur's crime branch anti-narcotics squad made a significant arrest on Sunday. The team seized narcotics valued at over ₹3.4 lakh and apprehended a drug peddler in a swift operation.
Operation Near KDK College Road
Officers were conducting a routine patrol near KDK College Road in Rajendra Nagar. This area falls within the Nandanvan locality. The team noticed a man behaving suspiciously close to Hanuman Mandir.
When the individual tried to run away, the police gave chase. They successfully caught and detained him after a brief pursuit.
Identity and Seizure Details
The arrested man identified himself as Suraj Gajbhiye. He is also known as Navva Gajbhiye and is 35 years old. He lives in the Nandanvan slum area.
Police conducted a thorough search in the presence of independent witnesses. The search yielded a substantial haul of illegal substances.
- 67 grams of MD powder: This is Mephedrone, with an estimated street value of ₹3.35 lakh.
- 846 grams of ganja: A significant quantity of cannabis.
- ₹10,000 in cash: Suspected proceeds from drug sales.
- A mobile phone: Likely used for coordinating deals.
The total value of the seized items is approximately ₹3.76 lakh.
Interrogation and Accomplice
During questioning, Suraj Gajbhiye provided crucial information. He revealed that he obtained the narcotics from an accomplice.
This accomplice is Roshan Rohankar, a 30-year-old man who is also a resident of Nandanvan. Rohankar is currently a wanted accused, and police are actively searching for him.
Legal Action and Ongoing Investigation
Authorities have registered a formal case against Suraj Gajbhiye. The case is filed at the Nandanvan Police Station under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The specific sections invoked are 8(a), 22(c), 20(b)(II)(a), and 29. These sections pertain to possession, sale, and conspiracy related to narcotic substances.
