In a strange development that has gripped Nagpur, wanted bookie Ashish Boma has taken to social media to issue a public apology. The 45-year-old fugitive, who is currently evading a police manhunt, released a video directly addressing Deputy Commissioner of Police Rahul Maknikar, pleading for forgiveness from senior officials.
A Distraught Plea and a Glaring Omission
The video shows a visibly upset Boma claiming that his previous controversial remarks were made under the influence of intoxication and do not represent his true self. However, this act of contrition has been met with severe criticism and skepticism. Critics and observers were quick to point out that the apology conspicuously failed to address two major allegations against him: the harassment of female orchestra singers and the extortion of a city businessman.
Last month, Boma allegedly threatened businessman Indukumar Agarwal and demanded an extortion amount of Rs 1.20 crore. Following these threats, Agarwal filed a formal complaint against Boma at the Sadar police station. The apology video made no mention of this incident or Agarwal.
The Harassment Allegations That Started It All
Boma's current legal troubles began earlier this month when he was accused of attempting to molest a group of women performers at a bar in Nagpur's MIDC area. The victims, fearing for their safety due to Boma's known criminal connections, chose to remain anonymous and did not initially approach the police with a formal complaint.
This omission of the women from his apology has intensified public anger and strengthened the resolve of the authorities to apprehend him. A section of the Nagpur police has dismissed the video as a calculated stunt.
Police Dismiss Video as a Desperate Ploy
"This is nothing but a ploy to garner sympathy," stated a senior police official, speaking on condition of anonymity. The authorities view the video as a desperate tactic to evade capture rather than a genuine expression of remorse.
Acting on intelligence inputs that suggested Boma might be hiding in Goa, the police dispatched a special team to the coastal state last week. However, the fugitive managed to slip through the net once again. Investigators now suspect he may have fled to another state, and the search operation has been widened accordingly.
The case continues to develop, with the police pursuing all leads to locate and arrest Ashish Boma, whose apology has done little to quell the storm of controversy surrounding him.
