A family's attendance at a wedding celebration turned into a nightmare when they returned to find their home in Nagpur ransacked and jewellery worth a fortune stolen. The incident, a stark reminder of rising property crimes, occurred in the Mungsaji Nagar area of Kharbi.
The Wedding Trip and the Discovery
The complainant, Vinod Mankar (48), along with his family, had locked their house and left for Kamptee to attend a relative's wedding. Their absence spanned from approximately 5:30 pm on December 2 to 5:00 pm on December 3. Upon their return, they were met with a scene of violation. The main door's lock and chain had been forcibly broken, indicating a brazen entry.
Modus Operandi and the Stolen Valuables
The unidentified thief, after breaking in, headed straight to the bedroom. The target was the closet, where the family kept their precious ornaments. The burglar made off with a significant haul of gold and silver jewellery, collectively valued at ₹1,65,000. The precision of the theft suggests the intruder may have been looking for specific, high-value items.
Police Action and Legal Framework
Acting promptly on Vinod Mankar's formal complaint, officials from the Wathoda Police Station have initiated an investigation. A case has been registered against the unknown accused under relevant sections of the new criminal code. The sections invoked are 305(A), 331(3), and 331(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which deal with house-trespass and theft. As of now, the probe is ongoing, with police likely examining local clues and potential CCTV footage to identify the culprit.
This burglary highlights the vulnerability of homes during extended absences and has caused concern among residents in the locality. The Wathoda Police are urging citizens to remain vigilant and employ additional security measures when away for long durations.
