A pre-wedding celebration in Nagpur took a devastating turn, resulting in the death of a 32-year-old man and leading to police action against his friends. The incident, which highlights alleged negligence, occurred at a farmhouse in the Patansawangi area under the jurisdiction of the Khapa police station.
From Celebration to Tragedy: The Fateful Night
The events unfolded on the night of November 15. Joel Singh had organized a bachelor party at a farmhouse ahead of his wedding. The gathering involved the heavy consumption of alcohol and continued late into the night.
According to the police account provided by Khapa police station in-charge Kishor Bhujade, all attendees drank extensively. The situation turned critical at around 1:30 am on November 16 when Aditya Mohite suddenly collapsed. He reportedly vomited, prompting others to gather around him. Although a doctor among the guests checked Aditya, the friends did not rush him to a hospital immediately.
"Those present later took him to a room, where he was found dead in the morning," stated Bhujade. This crucial delay in seeking professional medical help forms the core of the police case.
Brother's Complaint Alleges Grave Neglect
The police action was initiated based on a complaint filed by advocate Parikshit Mohite, the brother of the deceased Aditya Mohite. In his complaint, Parikshit provided a harrowing sequence of events.
He stated that after Aditya collapsed, he remained lying on the ground for nearly 15 minutes. Instead of calling an ambulance or taking him to a hospital, the others wrapped him in a blanket and moved him to a room inside the farmhouse. It was there that he was discovered dead the next morning.
The family was informed much later in the day by one of the friends, who mentioned that the doctor present could not find Aditya's pulse. Parikshit immediately instructed the friend to take Aditya to a private hospital on Koradi Road. Tragically, the family learned of Aditya's death only upon contacting the hospital.
The body was subsequently sent to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) where a post-mortem was conducted on the same day. The family cited the profound mental shock from Aditya's sudden demise as the reason for filing the police complaint only recently. During this period, they also collected CCTV footage from the farmhouse, which is said to have captured the party's activities.
Police Investigation and Next Steps
On Wednesday, the Khapa police formally registered a case of death due to negligence against the 11 friends who were present at the party. "Since the friends didn't immediately move Aditya to a hospital or inform his family about the incident, they were booked for death due to negligence," explained Inspector Bhujade.
The medical cause of death remains officially undetermined. "Post-mortem has been conducted but the cause of death is yet to be ascertained as the doctors have reserved their opinion," Bhujade added. The police have not made any arrests yet.
Officials stated that the accused individuals will be summoned to the police station for questioning on Friday. Further legal action will depend on the findings of the post-mortem report and a thorough examination of the seized CCTV footage.
