Mysuru Police Launch Intensive Week-Long Enforcement Drive
The Mysuru city police have conducted a rigorous special enforcement operation across the city, resulting in hundreds of cases registered for various violations. The drive, which spanned from January 15 to January 22, targeted multiple areas of public safety and law enforcement.
Crackdown on Tobacco and Public Nuisance Offenses
During the eight-day campaign, authorities registered a significant number of cases under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products (COTPA) Act. Exactly 711 cases were filed against individuals found violating provisions of this important public health legislation.
In addition to tobacco-related offenses, police addressed quality of life issues by filing 1,273 petty cases against those causing public nuisance within the city limits.
Traffic Safety Enforcement Results
The special drive included comprehensive checks for traffic violations, yielding substantial results in road safety enforcement. Police officers booked 1,510 cases specifically for the offense of not wearing helmets while riding two-wheelers.
Furthermore, 257 cases were registered under the IMV Act for vehicles operating without proper number plates or with defective identification plates.
Narcotics Operations and Substantial Seizures
Parallel to these enforcement activities, Mysuru city police conducted special operations targeting narcotic substance-related cases. Over the same eight-day period, authorities registered 9 separate cases involving illegal drugs.
The breakdown of these narcotics cases reveals:
- Four cases for possession of ganja
- Five cases for consumption of ganja
Police made significant seizures during these operations, including:
- Approximately 347 grams of marijuana
- About 34 grams of MDMA
- Roughly 12 grams of hydro ganja
In total, 12 individuals were arrested in connection with these narcotics cases. The confiscated substances have an estimated street value of Rs 2.8 lakh, according to official statements.
