The quiet neighbourhood of Pathar Mohalla in Samastipur district was shaken on Tuesday by the mysterious death of a woman found inside her rented accommodation. The incident has prompted a police investigation to unravel the circumstances leading to the tragedy.
Discovery of the Body
The grim discovery was made in the morning after neighbours were alerted by the persistent cries of the woman's young child. Upon rushing to the room, they found it locked from the inside. Unable to gain entry, they immediately contacted the local police authorities.
The police arrived swiftly and forced open the gate. Inside, they found the woman, identified as Poonam Kumari, wife of Shailesh Paswan from Angarghat village, lying motionless on the bed. Preliminary inspection by officials revealed no visible signs of injury on her body.
Police Investigation and Statements
The body was subsequently seized and sent to the sadar hospital for a postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death. Town Station House Officer (SHO) Ajit Kumar addressed the media, stating that the cause remains unclear at this preliminary stage.
"The cause of death will only be confirmed after the autopsy report comes," SHO Kumar stated. He revealed that initial investigations indicated Poonam Kumari did not share a good relationship with her husband and had been living separately in the rented house for the past three years.
The police are probing all possible angles in the case. In a crucial piece of information, Kumar mentioned that the woman's 10-year-old son told officers his mother had consumed something the previous night, claiming she was unwell. "They both went to sleep. In the morning, when his mother did not wake up, he started crying," the SHO recounted the child's statement.

The case has cast a pall over the Pathar Mohalla area, where the deceased had been a resident for several years. The police have emphasised that the investigation is active and multifaceted, focusing on personal circumstances and the events leading up to the fateful night.
With the autopsy report pending, the Samastipur police are yet to classify the nature of the death. The community awaits answers as authorities piece together the final hours of Poonam Kumari's life in the locked room that turned into a scene of tragedy.
