Motorcyclist Fatally Injured in Mumbai After Collision with Stationary Bus's Open Door
In a tragic incident in Mumbai, a 37-year-old motorcyclist lost his life after his two-wheeler collided with the side luggage door of a private bus that had been left open while the bus was stationary at Malad (West). The bus driver and owner fled the scene without providing any assistance to the victim, Vasant Godekar, leaving him critically injured.
Heroic Act by Bus Cleaner Amidst Negligence
It was the bus's 17-year-old cleaner who demonstrated remarkable courage and humanity in the face of this negligence. He tied his own shirt around Godekar's severe neck injury to stem the profuse bleeding and took him to a hospital. According to reports, passersby at the scene only recorded videos of the accident and did not offer any help, highlighting a disturbing lack of immediate aid.
The cleaner later recounted that he had requested the driver and owner to assist the injured man, but they ignored his pleas and fled. Police have since registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the bus driver and owner for their role in the incident and their failure to render assistance.
Victim's Background and Family's Ordeal
Vasant Godekar resided in Malwani with his mother, wife, and two children. He commuted daily to Borivli for work on his two-wheeler. On February 24, his wife received a distressing call informing her that Godekar had been injured in a road crash at Malad and was taken to Babasaheb Ambedkar Hospital in Kandivli.
The family rushed to the hospital, where they were met with the heartbreaking news that Godekar had been pronounced dead around 1:20 PM. At the hospital, they encountered the 17-year-old cleaner, who shared the harrowing details of the accident and the lack of help from others at the scene.
This incident underscores serious concerns about road safety and the ethical responsibilities of vehicle operators in Mumbai. The authorities are investigating the case further, with the FIR marking the first step towards potential legal action against those responsible for the negligence that led to this fatal outcome.
