Mumbai: The Aarey Colony Police have arrested a 64-year-old man for allegedly molesting an eight-year-old girl who lived next door to him. The accused has been booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, officials said on Friday.
Incident Details
According to the police, the incident occurred earlier this week when the minor victim left her house to play around 10 am. When she did not return, her family began searching for her. The door to the accused’s house was found shut, raising suspicions.
When the girl’s mother knocked on his door, the accused claimed that he had sent the girl to run an errand at a nearby grocery store. However, upon inquiry at the store, the family was informed that the girl had not been there.
Confrontation and Confession
The family returned to the accused’s residence, where he insisted that the girl was running an errand. The family then threatened to call the police, prompting the accused to confess that the girl was hiding inside his home. When the family entered, they found the girl, who disclosed that the accused had offered her money and invited her inside. Once she entered, he shut the door and molested her repeatedly.
The girl’s mother revealed that she had previously warned the accused against giving her daughter money to buy snacks. The accused was taken into custody and is currently in police remand.
