Tragic Fall Claims Life of Construction Worker in Vikhroli
The Vikhroli police have registered a case against a labour contractor following the tragic death of a 37-year-old labourer who fell from an under-construction building in Vikhroli's Kannamwar Nagar area on Saturday. The incident has raised serious questions about safety measures at construction sites across Mumbai.
Details of the Fatal Incident
According to the First Information Report (FIR) lodged by 23-year-old carpenter Shailesh Yadav, the deceased labourer Udayraj was talking on his phone near a window on the second floor of the building when the accident occurred. Yadav stated that he and another labourer were having their morning meal in the same room where Udayraj had been residing during the construction work.
The victim suddenly fell from the wooden platform of the window, plunging to his death. The room where the workers were situated was part of the ongoing construction project, highlighting the dangerous living conditions faced by many construction workers at their workplace.
Contractor Faces Legal Action
Police have booked labour contractor Ganesh Danawale under sections related to causing death by negligence. The primary accusation against Danawale is his failure to implement adequate safety measures during the construction work, which directly contributed to the fatal accident.
This incident marks another unfortunate addition to the growing list of construction-related accidents in Mumbai, where safety protocols are often compromised, putting workers' lives at risk. The Vikhroli police investigation is ongoing as they examine the specific safety violations that led to this preventable tragedy.
The case has brought renewed attention to the urgent need for stricter enforcement of workplace safety regulations in India's construction industry, particularly in rapidly developing urban areas like Mumbai where construction activities continue at a relentless pace.
