The Madhya Pradesh High Court has emphasized that easing traffic congestion around its Jabalpur building will require more than just constructing new parking facilities. Advocates, litigants, and court staff must also adopt carpooling, pick-and-drop systems, and maintain traffic discipline.
Court's Observation on Parking Plea
A division bench led by the Acting Chief Justice made this observation on Thursday while hearing a petition filed by the MP High Court Bar Association. The petition sought the release of funds by the state government for a Rs 117 crore project to build multi-level parking and advocate chambers near the court premises.
Tenders Issued for Project
The court noted that tenders for the project have already been issued. It disposed of the petition but clarified that it can be revived if there is any undue delay in the execution of the project.
The bench stressed that infrastructure alone cannot solve the traffic problem unless behavioral changes are adopted by all stakeholders. Carpooling and organized pick-and-drop systems can significantly reduce the number of vehicles entering the court area.
