Chhattisgarh Mother Arrested for Allegedly Murdering Toddler Son and Fabricating Kidnapping Story
In a shocking and tragic case from Chhattisgarh's Raigarh district, what initially appeared as a missing child investigation has unraveled into a chilling murder, with police arresting a woman accused of killing her two-and-a-half-year-old son and then attempting to mislead authorities with a false abduction narrative.
Discovery of the Toddler's Body in a Deep Gorge
The case came to light at the Kapu police station after the body of the young boy was discovered in a deep gorge near Ranigauwa hill. Police officials confirmed that the accused woman was taken into custody and subsequently sent to judicial remand, marking a grim turn in the investigation.
Timeline of Events Leading to the Arrest
According to a complaint filed by the child's father, he left home early on April 19 to collect forest produce. At that time, his wife was at home with their two children: a four-and-a-half-year-old daughter and the two-and-a-half-year-old son.
When the father returned in the afternoon, he found the house empty. By evening, only the daughter had returned alone, informing him that her mother had sent her back home and proceeded toward her maternal home through the forest with the son. Alarmed by this development, the family and villagers launched an extensive search throughout the night, but found no trace of the mother or child.
Police reported that the woman returned alone the next morning and allegedly evaded questions about her son's whereabouts. For two consecutive days, relatives and villagers continued scouring the forest area in a desperate search effort.
Critical Evidence Uncovered During Search
The breakthrough came on Saturday night when bloodstains were spotted on a stone near a mahua tree along a trail close to Ranigauwa hill. A thorough search of the surrounding area led villagers to the tragic discovery of the child's body lying in the gorge.
Investigators revealed that the woman initially tried to mislead them by claiming that unidentified individuals had snatched her child and fled the scene. However, evidence at the location contradicted her story.
Confession and Alleged Motive Behind the Crime
According to police statements, the accused woman told investigators she had been traveling to her parents' house with both children on the day of the incident. She allegedly sent her daughter back home during the journey and continued alone with her son.
During an uphill stretch of the path, she reportedly became exhausted and asked the toddler to walk. When the child sat down and refused to move, she allegedly attacked him in a sudden fit of rage, causing his death on the spot. She then concealed the body before returning home and fabricating the false abduction story.
Official Statement from Police Authorities
Senior Superintendent of Police Shashi Mohan Singh stated that the woman had attempted to hide the body out of fear following the killing. He confirmed that she was arrested after intensive questioning by investigators.
This tragic case highlights the devastating consequences of uncontrolled anger and the lengths to which individuals may go to conceal their actions, even when it involves their own children.
