Moradabad College Student Set Ablaze, Rejects Police's 'Accidental' Theory
Moradabad student set on fire, rejects police 'accident' claim

A 19-year-old college student in Moradabad has vehemently contradicted the police's initial suggestion that he was accidentally set on fire, stating the attack was a deliberate attempt to burn him alive. The incident, which has sent shockwaves through the city, occurred outside the gates of Hindu College.

Victim's Harrowing Account from Hospital Bed

Speaking to the media from his hospital bed on Friday, the victim, Farhad Ali, a BCom student, dismissed the police theory. Despite serious injuries that limit his ability to speak at length, Ali was clear in his statement. He asserted that the assailants intentionally poured petrol on him from a white bottle and then used a lighter to set him ablaze. "Police are saying the oil fell accidentally. If it was accidental, why did they use a lighter?" he questioned, highlighting the planned nature of the assault.

Ali, who sustained severe burn injuries to his leg, has filed a formal First Information Report (FIR). In it, he has demanded strict action against the accused for what he describes as a "planned attack."

Chronology of a Brutal Assault

The terrifying episode unfolded on Thursday afternoon after Ali had completed an examination paper and stepped out of the centre. According to police reports, two fellow students of Hindu College allegedly carried out the attack at the college gate. The accused have been identified as Aarush Singh (21), a BA third-semester student, and Deepak Kumar (20).

The victim's account details that Singh was the one who attacked him, while Kumar provided the petrol. Witnesses described a scene of panic as flames quickly engulfed Ali's clothes. Alert students and passers-by rushed to his aid, using water and cloth to douse the fire before he was taken to a private hospital. He was later referred to the district hospital for further treatment. Police officials stated that Ali suffered approximately 8% burn injuries.

Police Investigation and Forensic Probe

Moradabad (City) Superintendent of Police Kumar Ranvijay Singh provided updates on the ongoing investigation. He confirmed that initial findings point to the use of a petrol-filled bottle. "It appears a flammable substance was used. Forensic samples were collected and sent for chemical analysis. CCTV footage from nearby areas is being examined," the SP stated.

This forensic evidence will be crucial in establishing the exact sequence of events and the materials used, moving beyond the conflicting narratives. The case has put a spotlight on campus safety and the handling of violent crimes in educational institutions.
