Moradabad Honour Killing: Woman and Interfaith Partner Brutally Murdered by Brothers

In a horrific incident that has sent shockwaves through Uttar Pradesh, a young woman and her male partner were brutally hacked to death in what police are describing as an honour killing case. The tragic event unfolded in Umri village under the jurisdiction of the Pakwara police station in Moradabad district.

Three Brothers Arrested for Double Murder

Police have arrested three brothers identified as Rajaram, Satish, and Rinku Saini for allegedly murdering their 19-year-old sister Kajal Saini and her 27-year-old partner Mohammad Arman. The arrests came after the brothers confessed to committing the crime in what they described as a fit of anger over their sister's interfaith relationship.

Timeline of the Tragic Incident

The sequence of events began late on Sunday night when Mohammad Arman, who lived in the same neighbourhood, visited Kajal Saini's house. According to police officials, one of Kajal's brothers discovered Arman inside her room and immediately alerted his siblings.

The three brothers then forcibly entered the room and began assaulting both individuals. Police reports indicate that the brothers prevented other family members from intervening during the violent attack.

Brutal Attack with Farming Tool

One of the brothers reportedly retrieved a spade from the house and used it to repeatedly strike Mohammad Arman. The attack was so severe that Arman suffered critical head injuries and fell unconscious in a pool of blood, eventually succumbing to his wounds.

Witnessing Arman's death, Kajal attempted to escape from the house and raise an alarm. However, her brothers allegedly caught her and assaulted her with the same spade, leading to her tragic death.

Attempt to Conceal the Crime

After committing the double murder, the brothers reportedly stuffed the victims' bodies into gunny bags and transported them several kilometers away from the village. They buried the bodies on the riverbank in an attempt to conceal their crime.

Police Investigation and Recovery

The investigation began when Arman's family contacted police on Tuesday, reporting him missing and noting he was last seen going to sleep on Sunday night. Kajal's family also filed a missing person's report on the same day.

Satpal, Superintendent of Police in Moradabad, stated that Arman's family informed police about his relationship with Kajal. Initially, Kajal's family tried to mislead investigators by suggesting that Arman had abducted her with intentions of marriage after religious conversion.

During interrogation, the brothers confessed to the murders and led police to the burial site near the river where the bodies were recovered on Wednesday evening.

Legal Proceedings and Ongoing Investigation

A murder case has been registered based on a complaint filed by Arman's father, Hanif. Police are continuing their investigation to determine whether other individuals were involved in the planning or execution of the crime.

This tragic incident highlights the ongoing challenges of interfaith relationships in certain communities and the extreme violence that can result from traditional notions of honour. The case has drawn attention to the need for greater awareness and legal protection for couples in such relationships.
