Mohali Police Demolishes Drug Smuggler's Illegal Property in Anti-Drug Drive
Police in Mohali took decisive action on Friday by demolishing an illegally constructed property linked to a known drug smuggler. The demolition occurred at Gorakhnath Colony in the Barhmajra area of Mohali. This move forms a key part of the ongoing state-wide anti-drug campaign called "Yudh Nasheyan Virudh."
Targeting the Financial Backbone of Drug Networks
Officials confirmed that the demolished structure was in the possession of Sanjay Shah, a resident of Gorakhnath Colony, Barhmajra. Shah faces allegations of involvement in multiple drug trafficking cases. The construction itself was raised illegally by encroaching upon panchayat land. Authorities linked the property directly to proceeds from drug-related activities.
The action was carried out by the police in close association with the local village panchayat. It fell under the jurisdiction of the Balongi police station. Police executed the demolition following all due legal procedures. They also implemented tight security arrangements to ensure a smooth operation.
High-Level Supervision and Legal Compliance
Senior police officers supervised the demolition drive on-site. SP (PBI) Deepika Singh and DSP, Kharar Karan Singh Sandhu, oversaw the proceedings. BDPO Stawant Singh Randhawa was also present to guarantee full administrative compliance. Adequate police force was deployed throughout the operation. Their presence helped maintain law and order and prevented any disruptions.
Mohali SSP Harmandeep Singh Hans provided further details about the accused. He stated that Sanjay Shah is involved in a total of five First Information Reports (FIRs). Among these, three cases were registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. These cases were filed at Phase-1, Mohali, and Balongi police stations.
A Broader Strategy Against Drug Smuggling
SSP Hans emphasized that the demolition is not an isolated event. It represents a critical component of a broader strategy. The police aim to dismantle the illegal infrastructure built using money earned through drug smuggling. The "Yudh Nasheyan Virudh" campaign adopts a two-pronged approach.
Firstly, it focuses on arresting drug smugglers directly. Secondly, and just as importantly, it targets their financial backbone. The campaign seeks to seize or destroy assets and properties acquired through illegal means. This strategy aims to cripple the economic power of drug networks.
SSP Harmandeep Singh Hans offered a firm assurance to the public. He stated that strict and sustained action against drug networks will continue without pause. The police remain committed to rooting out drug-related crime from the region. This demolition serves as a clear warning to others involved in similar illegal activities.
