In a significant breakthrough, the Mohali police have arrested three individuals believed to be behind a series of armed robberies in the district. The police have recovered stolen items including gold chains, mobile phones, a laptop, a car, and the dummy pistol used to threaten victims.
The Initial Crime and FIR
The case originated from a complaint filed by Rohit John, a resident of Designer Villa in Sunny Enclave, Kharar. Based on his statement, an FIR was registered at the Sohana police station. The charges were framed under sections 304 and 317(2) of the new Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and sections 25, 54, and 59 of the Arms Act.
John alleged that on the intervening night of November 25 and 26, 2025, he and his friend Atul Sharma were in their white Hyundai Creta (CH01-CD-2202) on the Sector-84 road in Mohali. A Duster vehicle with registration PB-41 stopped nearby, and three youths emerged. One of them was brandishing a pistol. The armed trio threatened the victims and robbed them of their gold chains, iPhones, wallets, and their Creta car before escaping. The stolen car was later found abandoned in the Samrala area.
Police Action and Arrests
A special team from the CIA Staff, led by Inspector Harminder Singh, took over the investigation. Acting on technical surveillance and human intelligence, the team identified the suspects. On December 15, 2025, they conducted a raid in the Industrial Area of Sector 82, Mohali, and apprehended all three accused.
The arrested individuals have been identified as:
- Gurvinder Singh alias Guri (33), a 12th-pass resident of Ludhiana with no prior criminal record.
- Bikram Singh alias Gora (26), also 12th-pass and with no previous cases against him.
- Harmanpreet Singh alias Gagna (31), a 10th-pass resident of Ludhiana, who is already facing two cases related to illegal liquor and drug trafficking at Samrala police station.
Series of Crimes Unraveled
During interrogation, the accused confessed to a spree of robberies across Mohali. Police investigations revealed their modus operandi involved using a dummy pistol to intimidate pedestrians and occupants of stationary cars. The recoveries made include two gold chains, four mobile phones, a laptop, the dummy pistol, and a Nissan Trano car used in the crimes.
Besides the initial incident, the trio was involved in:
- Robbing two persons of their mobile phones at dummy pistol point near Manav Mangal School, Mohali, on the night of December 6-7, 2025.
- Threatening a young couple in an Alto car near the Sector 81 railway line on December 9, 2025, and stealing an HP laptop.
- Forcing another couple to transfer Rs 11,000 via Google Pay at gunpoint near Chilla Manauli village on the same night.
Ongoing Investigation and Remand
Saurav Jindal, the Superintendent of Police (Investigation), stated that the arrests have helped crack multiple robbery cases reported from various parts of Mohali. The accused are currently on police remand, and further interrogation is underway. The police have not ruled out the possibility of more recoveries or the involvement of the accused in other similar crimes in the region.
The crackdown highlights the police's focus on curbing street crimes that threaten the safety of citizens in public spaces. The use of a dummy pistol indicates a calculated attempt to instil fear without using a real firearm, though the legal consequences remain severe under the new BNS and Arms Act provisions.
