In a swift operation, the Mohali police have cracked a chilling murder case within just 24 hours of the crime being reported. The police have arrested three individuals, including the younger brother of the deceased, for allegedly killing a man and then setting his body on fire to conceal the evidence.
Burnt Body Discovery Triggers Probe
The case came to light when the police received information about a burnt body found near the Durali railway line in the Sohana police station area. A team led by Inspector Sunil Kumar swiftly reached the spot and recovered the remains. The victim was later identified as Gurdeep Singh, a resident of Sohana village.
Family Dispute Emerges as Motive
Investigations took a decisive turn based on the statement given by the youngest brother of the deceased, Sandeep Singh. In his complaint, Sandeep revealed that their brother, Sukhbir Singh, frequently quarreled with Gurdeep over personal issues and held deep-seated resentment against him. This long-standing family dispute is believed to be the primary motive behind the brutal murder.
Acting on this complaint, the police registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against Sukhbir Singh and his associates.
Swift Arrests and Confessions
Following the directions of SSP Harmandeep Singh Hans, a special team was formed under DSP (City-2) Harsimran Singh Bal to apprehend the accused. The team first arrested the main suspect, Sukhbir Singh. During interrogation, Sukhbir confessed to the crime and disclosed the involvement of his two accomplices.
The police subsequently arrested Gagandeep Singh alias Gaggu and Baljot Singh alias Laddi. Preliminary investigations revealed that after killing Gurdeep Singh, the trio took his body near the railway track and set it on fire in a desperate attempt to destroy evidence.
The police have obtained a two-day police remand for all three accused, who are currently undergoing further interrogation to uncover any additional details about the crime.
