In a shocking incident of mistaken identity, a mobile shop owner was brutally stabbed in Shivamogga city on Monday night. The attack, carried out by three individuals on a bike, has sent ripples through the local community and prompted a swift police response.
Attack at Aamir Ahmed Circle
The violent episode unfolded near Aamir Ahmed Circle in Shivamogga. Three assailants arrived on a motorcycle at the mobile shop owned by brothers Sayyad Barkat and Wasim. Armed with a knife, they launched an attack, stabbing Sayyad Barkat multiple times in the stomach and hand. The attackers had reportedly come targeting Wasim but mistakenly assaulted Barkat instead.
Victim's Condition and Police Investigation
The injured shop owner, Sayyad Barkat, was immediately rushed to a private super specialty hospital for urgent medical care. Police officials confirmed that he sustained three stab wounds to his stomach along with injuries on his hand. Fortunately, he is now reported to be out of danger and is undergoing treatment.
Shivamogga Superintendent of Police GK Mithun Kumar spearheaded the investigation, which moved quickly. The police have arrested three individuals in connection with the violent assault. SP Kumar revealed that the accused and the victims are known to each other, and the motive was personal enmity stemming from an old feud.
Motive and Aftermath
The investigation conclusively determined that the stabbing was not a random act of violence or a gang-related attack. Instead, it was a targeted assault born out of a personal vendetta. The attackers' failure to correctly identify their intended target, Wasim, led to his brother Barkat becoming the victim.
This case highlights the dangers of personal disputes escalating into public violence. The Shivamogga police's prompt action in apprehending the suspects has brought some measure of relief, but the incident serves as a grim reminder of the consequences of sustained enmity.
