Body of Missing Man Found in Patna Drain, Police Suspect Accidental Fall
Police in Patna made a grim discovery on Thursday morning. They found the body of a 45-year-old man in a drain near the Police Colony on Gola Road. The Danapur police station area became the scene of a sad recovery operation.
Man Went Missing After Visiting In-Laws
The deceased man was Jitendra Rai. He lived in Moulinagar, Maner. His family reported him missing after he failed to return home.
According to his brother-in-law, Sushil Kumar, Jitendra left his home last Saturday. He was traveling to his in-laws' place in Gosai Tola, Danapur. The purpose of the visit was to attend his mother-in-law's funeral rites.
When Jitendra did not come back and his phone stayed switched off, the family grew worried. They filed a formal missing person report at the Maner police station. Jitendra leaves behind five young children.
Police Retrieve Body and Launch Investigation
Authorities received information about the body early Thursday. The Dial 112 emergency team and Danapur police officers rushed to the spot on Gola Road. They immediately started an investigation.
After considerable effort, officers managed to pull the body from the drain. Police then informed the grieving family members, who soon arrived at the location.
Initial Findings Point to Accidental Fall
Danapur Station House Officer Prashant Kumar Bhardwaj addressed the media. He said the initial, or prima facie, appearance suggests the man slipped and fell into the drain.
"There were no visible injury marks on his body," SHO Bhardwaj stated. "The body was sent to the Danapur subdivisional hospital for a postmortem examination. Further investigation is currently underway."
The officer emphasized that the exact cause of death remains unclear. The circumstances that led to the body being in the drain are still under active investigation.
Family Reveals History of Drug Addiction
During police questioning, family members provided crucial information. They told officers that Jitendra Rai was a drug addict. This detail has become part of the ongoing inquiry.
SHO Bhardwaj added that police are taking additional steps. "The police are also checking the CCTV footage of the nearby areas," he said. This review aims to rule out any possibility of foul play in the tragic incident.
The case continues as authorities await the official postmortem report. They hope it will provide definitive answers about how Jitendra Rai died.
