Lokayukta Police Nab Mhow Sub Engineer in Bribery Sting Operation
In a significant crackdown on corruption, Lokayukta sleuths apprehended a sub engineer from the Mhow janpad panchayat while she was accepting a bribe from a panchayat secretary on Friday afternoon. The arrest underscores ongoing efforts to combat graft in local governance.
Complaint Leads to Sting Operation
The incident unfolded after Ramesh Chandra Chohan, secretary of Yashwantnagar panchayat, filed a formal complaint with the Lokayukta police. He alleged that sub engineer Savitri Muwel was demanding Rs 15,000 as a bribe to endorse the measurement book for a cement concrete road constructed in Yashwantnagar village.
Inspector Renu Agrawal explained to mediapersons that the project had received a sanction of Rs 4.52 lakhs, and payment to the contractor was impossible without Muwel's signature, creating a situation ripe for exploitation.
Red-Handed Capture and Legal Action
Acting on Chohan's tip-off, a police team swiftly descended upon the janpad panchayat office in Mhow. As soon as Chohan handed over the cash to Savitri Muwel, the officers caught her in the act, seizing the evidence. She was immediately booked under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act 2018 and taken into custody, marking a decisive step in the legal process.
This arrest highlights the vigilance of anti-corruption authorities and serves as a warning to officials engaging in unethical practices. The case is now under further investigation to ensure accountability and justice in public works projects.
