A young security guard at Bengaluru's bustling Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Metro Station, Majestic, was brutally assaulted by four passengers on Sunday afternoon. The violence erupted after the guard simply asked the group to form a queue before boarding a train.
Queue Request Turns Violent on Green Line Platform
The incident occurred around 12:45 PM on Sunday, February 4th, at the crowded Platform 3 of the Green Line. The victim, 19-year-old Indrajit Kumar, a native of Bihar employed with Wisdom Security Agency, noticed four men arriving on the platform with plans to travel towards Madavara. As the platform was busy, Kumar instructed the group to move to an emptier space and form an orderly queue to board the last coach of the train.
The men, identified as IT professionals hailing from Kadapa district in Andhra Pradesh, ignored the guard's instructions. This led to them missing a train that departed at 12:47 PM. When Kumar repeated his request, asking them to queue up for the next train, the situation escalated dramatically.
Slapped Seven Times and Kicked in Broad Daylight
One of the men from the group turned violent without provocation. He allegedly slapped the young security guard seven times and verbally abused him. Another member of the group kicked Kumar. The assault happened in full view of numerous commuters on the platform.
Metro staff acted swiftly, alerting the police about the attack. In a commendable act, two elderly commuters confronted the aggressive group and physically prevented them from boarding the next train, ensuring they remained at the scene until authorities arrived.
Police Action and Arrests Follow Public Outcry
Officers from the Upparpet police station reached the platform promptly and detained the four accused. They were identified as Narahari Teja Pratap Reddy (36), Srinivasa Reddy (40), Surendra Reddy (36), and Bhana Ashok Reddy (35), all residents of KR Pura in Bengaluru.
An FIR was registered against them under multiple sections of the new Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including:
- Section 115 (voluntarily causing hurt)
- Section 126 (wrongful restraint)
- Section 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace)
The four men were formally arrested but later released on station bail. A Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) official praised Kumar's composure, stating he remained calm despite the attack and reported the incident to his seniors. The official also expressed dismay that while many witnessed the assault, no one initially stepped forward to help the guard.
This shocking event highlights the challenges faced by frontline public transport staff in maintaining order and has raised questions about passenger behavior and public responsibility in India's tech capital.
