Speeding Mercedes Collides with Auto in Juhu, Injuring Driver and Passenger
A serious road accident occurred in Juhu on Monday night when a speeding Mercedes allegedly hit an autorickshaw stuck in traffic. The impact caused the auto to crash into an Innova Crysta vehicle that was part of Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar's escort convoy.
Details of the Incident
The incident took place around 9:10 pm near Silver Beach Cafe in Juhu. According to police reports, the autorickshaw driver Basit Khan was heading towards Juhu when he got stuck in heavy traffic. Suddenly, a Mercedes car came from behind at high speed and collided with the auto.
The forceful impact pushed the autorickshaw forward, causing it to ram into an Innova Crysta parked nearby. This Innova was being used as part of actor Akshay Kumar's security escort, though the actor himself was traveling in another vehicle at the time.
Injuries and Immediate Response
The collision resulted in serious injuries for both occupants of the autorickshaw. Auto driver Basit Khan suffered severe head injuries and was immediately rushed to Cooper Hospital for treatment. Doctors confirmed he is currently out of danger but requires ongoing medical care.
The passenger, identified as Aman Bharadwaj, escaped with minor injuries. Both individuals were trapped inside the badly damaged autorickshaw following the crash until passersby came to their assistance.
"The entire rickshaw was destroyed in the accident," a police officer from Juhu police station stated. "Khan suffered serious injuries to his head, while Bharadwaj sustained minor injuries."
Police Action and Investigation
Alerted by witnesses at the scene, police patrol vehicles quickly reached the accident location. The Mercedes driver, identified as 55-year-old Radheshyam Jitendra Rai, was taken into custody following the incident.
Police have registered a case against Rai and seized his vehicle bearing registration number MH01EV0002. After completing necessary legal formalities, authorities served him with an official notice regarding the accident.
The Innova Crysta vehicle also sustained damage in the collision, though police clarified that the incident had no direct connection to actor Akshay Kumar, who was not present in any of the vehicles involved in the crash.
Compensation and Treatment Concerns
Family members of the injured auto driver have raised concerns about proper medical treatment and compensation. They have requested that authorities ensure free treatment for Khan and provide compensation for the complete destruction of his autorickshaw.
A senior police officer confirmed that legal action has been initiated against the Mercedes driver. The officer emphasized that while the accident involved a vehicle from the actor's escort convoy, "it is nothing related to the actor" personally.
The Juhu police continue their investigation into the exact circumstances of the accident, including determining the speed of the Mercedes at the time of collision and whether any traffic violations contributed to the incident.
