Men Beaten in Delhi Over Cow Smuggling Suspicion

Two men were brutally assaulted and their vehicle damaged in West Delhi's Janakpuri area on Tuesday morning after a group of people allegedly mistook them for cow smugglers, police officials confirmed. The incident, which highlights ongoing tensions, occurred as the victims were returning home after their daily deliveries.

Violent Confrontation on Janakpuri Street

According to the police, a PCR call was received at the Janakpuri police station on the morning of Tuesday, January 7, 2026. The caller, identified as Nirmal, reported that three to four individuals were detaining and beating suspected 'cow smugglers' near a school in the A-1 block of Janakpuri. The assailants were later seen taking the victims towards the Najafgarh side.

Acting swiftly on the tip-off, a police team rushed to Major Deepak Tyagi Marg near A-1 Janakpuri Park. There, they discovered a damaged Hyundai i10 car abandoned on the roadside, bearing clear signs of vandalism.

Victims Identified as Legal Meat Suppliers

During the subsequent enquiry, police identified the injured men as Amaan and Mohammad Irfan. Contrary to the mob's suspicion, the duo are legitimate suppliers of buffalo meat. They supply meat daily from the Ghazipur slaughterhouse to three shops—two in Khyala and one in Bindapur.

To substantiate their legal business, the injured persons presented a receipt issued by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) slaughterhouse, dated January 6. The receipt documented the slaughter of one buffalo in the name of Nabeel, who is Amaan's brother.

Sequence of Events and Ongoing Probe

Police pieced together the sequence of events. Amaan and Irfan were on their way home after completing their deliveries when they were intercepted by two men, Vishal and Gopal. The pair allegedly accused them of smuggling cows, leading to a heated argument.

The altercation quickly escalated as more people gathered at the scene. The mob then allegedly proceeded to assault Amaan and Irfan and vandalise their car. Following the attack, the injured men were reportedly taken towards Ranhola in West Delhi by four other individuals: Tarun Solanki, Niranjan Pathak, Lokesh, and Aashu.

Both victims were taken to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital for a medical examination. The police have stated that further legal action is being initiated and the matter remains under active investigation to determine the full extent of the mob's involvement.
