The quiet village of Dahroli in Mathura's Barsana area was shaken on Friday after the body of a local grocery shop owner was discovered in an abandoned well. The victim, identified as 36-year-old Mahadev Kumar, was reported missing by his family before the grim find.
Timeline of a Tragedy
Mahadev Kumar had shut his shop located on the Barsana–Govardhan road at his usual time, around 9 pm on Thursday. When he did not return home, his concerned family initiated a search. Their worst fears began to materialize when they found his motorcycle abandoned near the village fields. The search led them to a nearby well, where they found Mahadev's body.
Police were alerted and swiftly retrieved the body from the well. It has been sent for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death. Senior police officials stated that the incident likely occurred around 10 pm on Thursday.
Police Investigation Underway
Suresh Chandra Rawat, the SP (Rural), provided details of the ongoing probe. "We reached the spot immediately and inspected the crime scene," he said. Forensic experts and a dog squad were deployed to collect crucial evidence from the location.
The police are actively reviewing CCTV footage from the area to trace the sequence of events and identify suspects. "Search operations are underway. We have found some clues and will soon identify and arrest the culprits," SP Rawat assured. A case of murder has been officially registered at the Barsana police station against unidentified accused persons.
A Life Cut Short
Family members and locals are in a state of shock, describing Mahadev as a man with no known enemies. He had been running his grocery shop peacefully for several years. The shop was situated barely 500 meters from his house, making the violent incident even more startling for the close-knit community.
The police are investigating all possible angles, including personal enmity and robbery, though the family has ruled out any known disputes. The community now awaits answers as authorities work to unravel the mystery behind this brutal crime in Barsana.
