In a massive security operation for the final night of 2025, the Goa Police will deploy more than 3,000 personnel across the coastal state to ensure safe and smooth New Year celebrations for both residents and visitors. The elaborate plan focuses on preventive policing, stringent traffic management, and swift action against anti-social behaviour.
Comprehensive Security Blanket Across the State
Director General of Police (DGP) Alok Kumar outlined the extensive arrangements, stating that personnel from both North and South Goa districts, along with 700 additional officers from the Indian Reserve Battalion (IRBn), will be on duty. The force will be highly visible on the roads from the evening of December 31 to deter any untoward incidents.
Nakabandi (checkpoints) will be established at 100 key locations across Goa. DGP Kumar emphasised that this visible police presence is not meant to instil fear but to proactively curb offences like drunken driving and hooliganism. "We will not unnecessarily harass anyone, but it is necessary to take action against hooliganism," he stated.
The security apparatus is multi-layered, with the deployment of specialised units including the tourist police, coastal security police, anti-terror squad, and bomb disposal squad. The police control room has been directed to monitor all information flow closely to enable rapid response to any situation.
Traffic Management Plan to Tackle Peak Season Congestion
With the peak tourist season leading to a massive surge in vehicles, especially in popular coastal belts like Calangute, traffic management is a top priority. The police have designed a specific traffic circulation plan for New Year's Day to decongest village roads and ensure the smooth flow of vehicles, minimising inconvenience.
Police have issued a clear advisory to all motorists, urging them to:
- Drive responsibly and follow all traffic rules.
- Wear helmets while riding two-wheelers.
- Avoid dangerous driving and using mobile phones while driving.
- Strictly refrain from drunk driving.
- Maintain lane discipline and park only in designated lots.
Violators of traffic rules will be dealt with strictly as per the law. The public is requested to follow the temporary traffic plans and cooperate with officers on the ground.
Strict Directives for Party Organisers and Preventive Policing
South Goa Superintendent of Police, Tikam Singh Verma, highlighted the focus on preventive measures. Police personnel have been directed to act firmly against anti-social elements. Organisers of New Year parties have been instructed to strictly adhere to permitted timelines, with warnings of strict action for any violations.
Furthermore, all party venues must ensure that adequate fire safety and emergency response measures are fully operational. The police have assured that arrangements will be in place at all locations across the state expecting high footfall.
In case of any traffic congestion or emergencies, the general public can contact designated traffic officers for immediate resolution. The overarching message from the Goa Police is one of celebration with responsibility, ensuring that the welcoming of 2026 is safe and enjoyable for everyone in the state.
