Mangaluru Police Apprehend Long-Time Fugitive After Extensive Four-Year Search
In a significant breakthrough, the Mangaluru City police have successfully arrested an accused individual who had been evading court proceedings for nearly four years. The arrest marks the culmination of an intensive manhunt for a person wanted in multiple criminal cases across the districts of Dakshina Kannada and Chikkamagaluru.
Details of the Arrested Accused
City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy identified the arrested individual as K Abdul Basheer, also known as Arga Basheer, a 50-year-old resident of Thenka Mijar village in Moodbidri. According to Commissioner Reddy, Basheer was involved in approximately 17 cases registered at various police stations within the two districts.
The accused had been absconding for roughly four years after failing to appear for his trial, which prompted the court to issue non-bailable warrants and proclamation arrest warrants against him. During this period of evasion, Basheer vacated his family home at Arga House in Thenka Mijar village and relocated his family to a rented residence in Parliya near BC Road in Bantwal taluk.
Police Operation and Legal Proceedings
Acting on a credible tip-off, police officers were able to trace Basheer's whereabouts and take him into custody. A fresh case has been registered against him at the Moodubidire police station specifically for evading court hearings, as confirmed by Commissioner Reddy. This additional charge underscores the legal consequences of avoiding judicial processes.

The 17 cases against Basheer are spread across multiple police stations, including Moodubidire, Bajpe, Mangaluru Rural, Dharmasthala, Belthangady, and Kalasa. The charges levied against him are extensive and severe, encompassing:

- Attempt to murder
- Offences under the Arms Act
- Violations related to the Karnataka Prevention of Cow Slaughter and Cattle Preservation Act
- Violations under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act
