Mangaluru Burglary: Family Loses Rs 19.3 Lakh in Gold and Cash While Attending Temple Festival
A shocking house burglary has been reported in Mangaluru, where unidentified miscreants stole gold ornaments and cash worth nearly Rs 19.3 lakh while the family was away attending a temple festival. The incident occurred under the jurisdiction of the Punjalkatte police station, highlighting concerns over property security in the region.
Family Returns to Find Home Ransacked
According to a complaint filed by D Murali, a 50-year-old resident of Ballamanja in Belthangady taluk, the family left their house around 6:40 PM on Sunday to attend the Brahmakalasha festival at the Anantheshwara Temple in Ballamanja. Before departing, they ensured the house was securely locked.
After participating in the puja, Murali's wife Shantha, son Srivatsa, and mother Lakshmi returned home around 8:30 PM. To their horror, they found the front door partially open. Upon entering, they discovered the bedroom cupboard broken open and clothes scattered across the floor. Murali was immediately informed, and an inspection confirmed that burglars had forcibly broken the main door lock using a tool, entered the premises, and looted valuable items.
Stolen Valuables Include Gold and Cash
The stolen property includes approximately 136 grams of gold ornaments, comprising chains, bracelets, rings, a necklace, bangles, earrings, a pendant, and small gold pieces. These items are collectively valued at around Rs 13.3 lakh. In addition, cash amounting to Rs 6 lakh was also taken, which included Rs 3 lakh from agricultural income and Rs 3 lakh saved from priestly services.
The total estimated value of the stolen property is Rs 19.3 lakh, making this a significant theft that has left the family devastated. The loss not only represents monetary value but also sentimental items accumulated over time.
Police Investigation Underway
A case has been registered under Sections 331(3), 331(4), and 305 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and further investigation is in progress. Authorities are examining the scene for evidence and questioning potential witnesses to identify the culprits.
This incident serves as a stark reminder for residents to enhance home security measures, especially during festivals or events when houses may be left unattended. The local community has expressed concern over the rising incidents of burglary in the area, urging police to increase patrols and surveillance.
