Mandya Police Seize 111 Kg Ganja, Arrest Andhra Man

Mandya district police have successfully conducted a major anti-narcotics operation, seizing 111 kilograms of ganja valued at approximately Rs 60 lakh and arresting a man from Andhra Pradesh who was allegedly transporting the contraband for sale.

Tip-Off Leads to Operation

According to police, Malavalli sub-division DSP SB Yashwanth Kumar received credible information on Wednesday that a person was transporting ganja in a car from Kunigal towards Maddur along state highway-33. Acting on the tip-off, the DSP reported the matter at Kestur police station at around 5:30 pm.

Under the guidance of Mandya SP VJ Shobharani and additional superintendent of police CE Thimmaiah, a special team led by DSP Yashwanth Kumar launched an operation on the Tumakuru-Maddur state highway passing through Kestur town.

Vehicle Intercepted and Contraband Recovered

During vehicle checks conducted in the presence of panch witnesses, the team intercepted a car. A thorough search of the vehicle led to the discovery of five plastic bags containing 51 packets of ganja, weighing a total of 111 kg. The accused was identified as Srinivas C, a resident of Madanapalle in Andhra Pradesh.

Police seized the contraband and the vehicle used for transportation under a mahazar (seizure memo).

SP Shobharani commended the officers and staff involved in the successful operation, highlighting their vigilance and swift action in curbing drug trafficking in the region.
