A married man allegedly strangled his 22-year-old lover in Bengaluru and then sprinkled poison on her body to mislead the police into believing it was a suicide. The incident came to light on Saturday.
The Incident
The accused, identified as Chandrashekar, a resident of Magadi Road, was in a relationship with Bhavani S (22), who worked at a mobile phone store near Magadi Main Road. According to the police, Chandrashekar had been married for several years and had two children. Bhavani had been pressuring him to marry her, which led to frequent arguments.
The Murder
On Friday night, Chandrashekar called Bhavani to his house under the pretext of discussing their relationship. During the meeting, an argument broke out, and he strangled her to death. To cover up the crime, he sprinkled a poisonous substance on her body, hoping it would be mistaken for a suicide by poisoning.
Police Investigation
The police, however, grew suspicious during the post-mortem examination. The forensic team found ligature marks on the neck, indicating strangulation. Further investigation revealed that Chandrashekar had purchased the poison from a local shop. He was taken into custody and confessed to the crime during interrogation.
Legal Action
The police have registered a case of murder and are investigating further. Chandrashekar has been remanded to judicial custody. The body of the deceased has been handed over to her family after post-mortem.
