A tragic incident occurred in Borivli East, Mumbai, on June 8, when a 43-year-old man lost his life after being run over by a school bus. The man, identified as Dattaram Kapdule, was sleeping in the shadow of the parked bus when the driver reversed without checking his surroundings.
Details of the Incident
Around 12:30 pm, Kapdule had his lunch and lay down on the road, seeking shade from the parked school bus. The bus driver, Ganpat Ghogal, entered the vehicle and put it into reverse gear without verifying that the area behind was clear. The bus ran over Kapdule, causing severe injuries.
Medical Response and Death
Kapdule was rushed to Babasaheb Ambedkar Hospital in Kandivali, where doctors declared him dead upon arrival. The police have registered a case of rash driving and negligence against Ghogal.
Victim's Background
Dattaram Kapdule was unmarried and worked odd jobs to support himself. His brother, Sunil, a farmer, was informed of the accident by the police. Sunil revealed that he had often advised his brother to move back to their hometown in Ratnagiri, but Kapdule did not heed the advice.
Legal Action
The Kasturba Marg Police have initiated legal proceedings against the bus driver under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code for rash driving and negligence causing death.
