A violent confrontation over a long-pending debt turned bloody in Batala, leaving a man from Amritsar with a gunshot wound to his leg. The incident, captured on mobile phone video, stemmed from a dispute over a substantial loan of Rs 5 lakh given nearly two decades ago.
Heated Argument Over Unpaid Debt Turns Violent
The victim, identified as Rajinder Singh from Amritsar, had loaned Rs 5 lakh to his friend Paramjit Singh, a resident of Batala, back in 2003. For years, the accused allegedly avoided repaying the significant sum. Tired of the evasion, Rajinder Singh decided to take direct action. He traveled from Amritsar to Batala, accompanied by his wife and their driver, to personally demand the return of his money at the borrower's home.
Upon confrontation, the situation quickly escalated into a heated argument between the two families. The accused, Paramjit Singh, reportedly claimed that he had already returned the borrowed amount. Adding to the tension, the wife of the accused challenged Rajinder Singh to provide proof that the money was still owed to him.
Alleged Shooting Captured on Mobile Phone
During the intense exchange, the accused allegedly retrieved a rifle. In a shocking turn of events, he is said to have pointed the weapon at Rajinder Singh and opened fire. The bullet struck the victim in his leg, causing immediate injury. A crucial piece of evidence emerged as the entire incident was reportedly recorded on video by the victim's wife using her mobile phone.
Following the shooting, the injured Rajinder Singh was rushed from the scene to a nearby hospital to receive medical treatment for his gunshot wound. The recorded video has since surfaced, providing visual documentation of the violent fallout from the financial disagreement.
Police Investigation Underway
Local law enforcement authorities have been notified and have taken action based on the complaint. The police have officially registered a case in connection with the shooting and have initiated a thorough investigation to unravel the complete sequence of events. The probe will examine the claims from both sides, the validity of the loan, and the circumstances that led to the use of a firearm.
This case highlights the dangers of personal financial disputes turning physically violent. It serves as a stark reminder of the importance of proper documentation for loans and the legal avenues available for debt recovery, rather than resorting to confrontational methods that can have severe consequences.
