A seemingly trivial domestic argument over a cup of tea escalated into a horrific murder in Madhya Pradesh's Narsinghpur district, leading to a police manhunt and a subsequent arrest. The incident, which occurred on December 9, saw a man allegedly slitting his wife's throat after she refused to prepare tea for him.
The Fatal Dispute and Gruesome Discovery
According to the Kotwali police, the tragic event unfolded at the couple's residence. The accused, Manoj Soni, asked his 45-year-old wife, Lata Soni, to make tea. Her refusal to do so triggered a violent reaction. Police stated that the couple had a history of disputes, and this refusal intensified Manoj's existing grudge.
The crime came to light after a friend of the victim's son filed a complaint. Lata Soni was found dead in an upstairs room of the house with severe neck injuries. Initially, an offence of murder was registered against an unknown assailant, but investigations quickly pointed towards her husband, who had fled the scene immediately after the killing.
Police Investigation and Arrest
Following a sustained manhunt, the police managed to track down and arrest the absconding husband. Kotwali police station incharge Gaurav Chate provided crucial context, revealing that Manoj Soni is an asthma patient who used to take his medicine with tea. His demand for tea and his wife's denial became the flashpoint.
During interrogation, Manoj Soni allegedly confessed to attacking his wife with a sharp-edged weapon while she was asleep. The police successfully recovered critical evidence, including the murder weapon—a knife—and the clothes he was wearing at the time of the incident, from his hideout.
Legal Proceedings and Aftermath
The accused was formally produced before the court, which remanded him to judicial custody. This shocking case of domestic violence in Narsinghpur has sent ripples through the community, highlighting how simmering personal disputes can erupt into extreme violence.
The police's swift action in registering the case, investigating, and apprehending the accused within days of the crime demonstrates a focused response to the serious offence. The incident serves as a grim reminder of the fatal consequences that can arise from unresolved domestic conflicts.
