Prayagraj: Police on Thursday arrested a man identified as Rahul Kumar Srivastava, 35, from Patna for allegedly purchasing codeine cough syrup worth Rs 1.05 crore illegally from a firm in Prayagraj and smuggling it to districts in Bihar.
Arrest and Legal Proceedings
The accused was brought to Prayagraj the same day and sent to jail in the evening. An FIR in the case was registered at Airport police station.
Background of the Case
In November 2025, a drug inspector had lodged an FIR against the firm’s owner, accusing him of supplying illegal codeine syrup. Police had already sent four persons associated with the firm, allegedly involved in the codeine cough syrup supply and smuggling case, to jail.
